Summer Fun!

It’s time to have some summer fun with your boys.

Out of ideas? I’ve got a few.

Watch this spot – I’ll be posting creative summer fun ideas a couple of times a week.

Before we take off into Idea Land, let’s talk about the nuts and bolts a second.

Spontaneous, off-the-cuff fun is great, but let’s face it – often, if you don’t plan for something, absolutely nothing happens. So once you’ve decided on an idea, plan for it.

Put it on the calendar. That will make the boys anticipate it all the more. And don’t forget to buy or gather what you need to make it happen. There’s nothing worse than getting your sons hyped up about something, and then not being able to follow through.

Here’s today’s idea: Grow something.

Inside or out, big or small – just grow something. Buy seeds, gather tools, pick a spot, and get started.

This activity will continue long after today. You’ll need to check your progress, water, weed, and finally, hopefully harvest!

If your outside efforts don’t take, try growing a little something inside or on the patio.

If you can’t grow in your yard, look around. Offer to help a neighbor with his or her garden. Go with the boys and help your neighbor week and water. They’ll get experience with not only gardening, but with reaching out, forming relationships, and helping others.

So, take the challenge – grow something.

For the love of boys,
Laura

From Sons to Fathers

Yes, I know that none of you are fathers yet – but you will be one day, and I’m here to tell you that you’ll make GREAT ones! Here’s why:

You have a great model in your own father -- a responsible but fun dad who’s not afraid of hard work. He’s creative, determined, and as I’ve heard you all say often, “He knows everything and can fix anything.”

You know the Heavenly Father. He has filled you boys with love and compassion for others and a clear sense of right and wrong. He’ll be there for you to depend on, even when the going gets tough as it does for dads.

Each one of you has his own special gifts and talents, and you’ll use those as your disciple your kids. You are four different young men, not a duplicate among you – testimony to God’s creativity.

I know fatherhood may be years away for you boys, but I do look forward to the day. My prayer is that you’ll be as blessed by parenthood as your dad and I have been. By the way, your sweet Father’s Day words, cards, and calls made his day!
